More than 100 dead in Bangladesh following protests in Dhaka

August 5th 2018

Following student-led protests in the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka, there are more than 100 casualties following the violent response from the Bengali police force. The demonstration started as two people were killed as a result of a speeding bus. The Bengali transport sector has long been considered corrupt and dangerous - with the death of the two adolescents as evidence of merely that.

More so, the situation seems more worrisome as the government denies responsibility on its part and as the protests are getting scarce media coverage in western media outlets. The United Nations Student Association Oslo stand by the victims of the violence and demand a peaceful reform of the current situation in Bangladesh. Show your support for the cause by spreading awareness on social media so that the matter gains the attention it deserves.

The UN Student Association Oslo Condemns the Attacks in Nicaragua

July 26th 2018

Since April 2018, more than 351 people have been killed as a result of student-led demonstrations against President Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua. The ongoing political crisis has intensified and government-friendly milita attempted to violently suppress the peaceful protests against the Nicaraguan authorities. The situation is describes as nothing less than a war zone and the authorities are claiming that the violence is not one-sided - a statement that is gravely disturbing.

Amnesty International has urged the Nicaraguan government to allow the establishment of a commission of independent experts to begin investigating the killing and other human rights violations.

The United Nations Student Association Oslo condemns all violence in the ongoing conflict and emphasised the need for a further investigation of the human rights violations.

There has been widespread international condemnation by the Nicaraguan government, and there is no doubt that there are grave human rights violations committed by the Nicaraguan government. Norwegian authorities must condemn the attacks and demand a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict, if necessary play a key role in the process.
